A REASON TO LOVE MONDAYS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Africa, Cape Town, May 2011; FRENCH TOAST, the wine and tapas bar in Bree Street which has been winning the hearts and palates of Capetonians since it opened just seven months ago, will be giving its customers even more to smile about this winter – and beyond.

Every Monday from now on all wines normally R400 or less a bottle will be half price – all day. The wine list at French Toast is extensive, with nearly a quarter of the offerings coming from France, Italy, Germany and Spain and the remainder a fine representation of the best this country produces. With this promotion, which ranges from De Meye Rosé – list price R98, now R49 – up to the sultry Boekenhoutskloof Chocolate Block which will be an affordable R200 on Mondays, patrons will be able to enjoy a variety of fabulous wines from entry level all the way up to the truly stunning … without breaking the bank.

From Springfield Life From Stone sauvignon blanc (normally R197) and the Vriesenhof Pinot Noir (normally R375) to wonderful warm reds like Kevin Arnold shiraz for just R170, the Kloof Street red blend for R80 and a Rhone blend from Chapoutier made in Languedoc Rousillon for R95, there are many reasons to snuggle up in front of the fireplace with something comforting in the glass.

French Toast’s comfortable and cosy décor – dusky brick walls, velvet, deep leather couches and of course the fireplace – make it the perfect destination during these chilly months, and the delicious tapas-style menu means anything from long, leisurely meals shared among a group of friends to quick, intimate dining before, after or in between shows, movies, shopping or work - any time of the day.

Portions are generous yet reasonably priced and the winter menu features some returning favourites, by popular demand, as well as some exciting new dishes, like hot smoked salmon with dill crème fraiche. Regulars will be pleased to know the succulent beef short ribs and peri peri chicken livers are back, and chef Jannie Melis will be making a soup du jour in the classic style – think French onion and minestrone. A local butcher has been enlisted to supply scrumptious spicy pork sausages specially made for French Toast, which will be served with braised lentils.

From something snacky and decadent desserts, to cheese and charcuterie platters to share, complimentary bruschetta with any drink ordered between 5pm and 7pm, food and wine evenings and loads of fantastic ongoing wine specials, French Toast is the answer to every food lover’s prayer.
